Who's running the pool for how long it will take for A1 to remove all the links from his posts? And what's the over-under on whether he'll just up and leave?
It's 8:11AM Eastern. I'm betting $1 that by noon he will have let the forum permanently and deleted all of his posts. I think it's unfortunate, I think he's needed, I would regret that decision. But he shouldn't try to fuck the sheep. They bite.

I think I'll have a look at FALTO then I may understand.

Are you saying that Avril smells like a fish? I know from personal experience that they all do, no matter how good their hygiene, and I would appreciate it if you did not disparage my dear Avril Lavigne in that way.

One thing I've never quite been able to understand is why A1 signed up over there in the first place in light of his troubles at AYBCS. After all, FARTO consists of many of the same folks.
He plays a vital role at FARTO with his frequent music posts and request fulfillments, but never really participates in any social sense in discussions or just for fun.
Basically, all he does is post music and nothing else. That's fine, but seems awfully one sided, and I question what benefit he really gets out of the place. Maybe it's some sort of OCD thing.
I don't think it would be worth my time to contribute to the extent that he does to a place where I didn't feel welcome.

I believe that he is trying to position himself where Hotblack (and the rest of the forum) will back him in a dispute in order to maintain the gravy train that he provides. I also think it helps his self-esteem to have so many coming to him with requests. I'd be pleased with myself if I were the go-to guy for albums, but I'd soon tire of doing all of the work. He's pulled some pretty remarkable things out of his ass quickly, and his ability to have his "colleagues" come through for him is very impressive.
He had an ideal set of allies at AYBCS but Reggie was also providing a shitload of stuff, so A1's position was not as strong. They folded the forum rather than back him. Frankly, I don't know why folks continue to tolerate his LIMITED TIME ONLY scheme, but nobody has challenged him about it so I suppose that I'm an opposition party of one.

I think everyone but myself welcomes him. Everyone else seems to be as tolerant of his shortcomings as they are of mine. Possibly the most disturbing trait I find in him is his lack of self-awareness of when he's being a dick. I can usually recognize when I've built a mountain out of a molehill and can find my way back down. Maybe I just have more experience at it.
I don't recall how often he participated in discussions at AYBCS, but he may be avoiding them at FALTO so that the two of us go toe to toe less often. I know that I generally don't even read his topics because I'm aware that he'll inevitably say something to set me off and I'm looking to keep our catfights to a minimum. We've ever been able to duplicate the discussions that he used to enjoy when Frank had his blog. There were many more debates about specific albums and trivia about the artists. There were wider variety of people dropping by to add their opinions. There was less going on, you could savor the fine points of one download for several days. He also likes to maintain his anonymity and mystery, and prolonged discussions always reveal details.
My time at FALTO would be much less interesting if I didn't have Elmer Fudd to continually frustrate me. I can only hope that my presence provides some sort of balance to his experience. And this place would be less enjoyable if it wasn't my Anonymous-free refuge where I could gleefully curse his very existence. I'm pretty sure this dynamic is what brings joy to politicians.

He certainly brings a lot of music. I don't know how much comes from he and his colleagues and how much he finds on the web and takes credit for. Even if he stole 75% from the web, it's still a lot of work to feed the hungry little birdies.
At least 50% of the albums I own are rock, but I've seen the requests that come into FALTO, and I don't own it. I'm working my way through the jazz and blues in my collection because those chunks are smaller and I feel that I'm making progress. When I get over to the rock side I might find something of interest, but that's not in the cards right now.
In the AYBCS days, limited meant one week. I don't know if he's made the interval shorter or longer since then. He's definitely had posts that were only up for one day. We don't have a lot of traffic passing through FALTO, so I guess that it works out for him. Everyone downloads soon after he posts and nobody stumbles across it a month later and asks for a re-up.

Music aside, I found his personality insufferable. I think Don called him the "Gump" of our group.
He met everyone, was there when everything happened and is oh so hip because of it.

HIs Dylan post was gone when I went to grab it yesterday. It had been up a week or so I guess.

Actually, it wasn't all that special. |
That's what i thought as well. was that ever a commercial release? or was it just some thing he put together. it was unclear to me which it was. i have all of those tracks, i think, but from different sources (ie: not as a package).

No it was something he pulled together. A nice idea, but as Sudsman says, Freewheelin would be a much more interesting idea. He did the debut album as it is 50 years since its release (50 years?! Bob must feel old!)
