So....how is everybody?

Doing O.K. I hope.

Me?

Well.....

On March 31th, a Saturday, I sat in front of my computer with a ham sandwich in one hand and a glass of iced diet raspberry tea in the other, and booted up the PC.

It started normally as usually....then it re-booted again.

HUh?

Then it booted up again.

Aw crap. I don't like where this is going.

Then it booted up once more and then.....

"Cannot find operating system."

Damn.

Well I guess I have to fix what's corrupting my hard drive, right?

Err, no.

Apparently, to make a very long story thankfully short, the files on my old hard drive were encrypted by the corrupted operating system and I couldn't remove most of my files---I got the "Access Denied" message each & every time I tried. NO way to salvage anything else from it. Including the forum links and passwords like this o' joint. Hence why I've been away for awhile.

So for all intended purposes, I was offline for good the past month. I then got a spare computer that although was old, it was still workable. And yet, I had to deal with other issues and limitations with this "new" computer than I had with my old one. Took weeks to rebuild.

But I think I'm back. Hopefully. On my birthday too, ironically.

And that's what I've been doing these past few weeks.

(well that, and attacking Newt Gingrich. I was pissed and had to take it out on SOMEONE. No one puts their meaty hands on me.....)

Thanks Greensleeves!

I'm glad to be back. This long, unintentional 'vacation' didn't suit me well.

I'm still trying to sort out & tweak what I've got on my computer now and it's been an adventure to say the least. I should be back in full gear soon. I hope.

Glad to see you back. Was wondering if it was something Don said ...

Thanks for the birthday greetings. Wasn't expecting to be back online on my birthday--it was purely by chance. As I mentioned before, I couldn't get back in here for awhile since the password this smart-ass fool writing now created was absent from my memory and stuck on my now in digital limbo old hard drive. During the time I was digging through the piles of documents and other assorted junk searching for my tech notes, I found a tiny scrap of paper with a number of letters and numbers I scribbled down to decided which one was a good password.

I spotted the one I log on to here. Lucky me.

I still in the midst of sorting out what to put back in with the limited amount of space I'm given on my 'new' hard drive, so the adventure continues. But here's the funny thing: during my absence, Hotmail close down my account.

Why?

Because according to the Thought Police, I was getting some "Inappropriate Mailings" from someone. I can only think that they were referring to my RRS (or is it RSS?) subscription feed from the Phrock blog. They wouldn't let me back in until I give them ALL the information about little old me--included blood type I imagine.

Ah, Georgie don't play that.

So I started a new account somewhere, and give them that address when they requested another e-mail account where they could contact me.

To date, they never contacted me back. And they still refuse to let me back in.

Screw them.

So I'm off Gmail & Hotmail from now on since they want to act like the bastard children of George Orwell. I don't care what their reason is: I don't trust anyone that even hints at going 'narc' on me.

So as a public service, here are some other E-Mail accounts you may want to try out.

....and they're free!! Mr. Green

Code:
http://www.breakthru.com/

(a bare-bones account but it does the job.)

Code:
http://www.fastmail.fm/mail/personal.html

(another simple one, but they offer other extras for a paid upgrade if you want.)

Code:
https://www.mail.com/

(I don't use this one as much--mainly I use this account when I register software and they want to shower me with junk mail. Once a month I log on there to flush it out, unless I get the info I'm seeking, usually software updates. Still its a good e-mail account.)

Code:
http://registration.myway.com/register.jsp

(Myway.com, for a free account, offers a lot of good extras, including personalizing your own front page--you can add or subtract what you want on your own home page like the comics strips, news feeds, TV or Movie schedulers and the like.)

Well I'm sure there's others but this will get you started on your journey. Have fun.

@Reggie:

Nah, Don and I are cool. Plus I got those blackmail photos handy just in case. (Even Batman has Kryptonite on Superman. Mr. Green Mr. Green )

Fastmail is good. I had a few accounts there back in my scambaiting days; it was nice because a) there were a number of available extensions (like .cc or .imap or whatever, allowing you a lot of flexibility), and b) like Gmail, it does not reveal your IP address.

Once when I was pretending to be a Russian mobster I opened a mail.ru account. Convincing, but it was a bitch to navigate because the interface was all in Russian. Smile

George old fellow, I was just thinking about you:

Did you know the Maori name for New Zealand's first capital was Kororareka, which loosely translated means "the sweet, sweet flesh of the penguin".

@Sudsman

I'm surprised that people don't or won't try different e-mail services. Other than your shady hobbies young man, I think it's good to try different e-mail services just to weigh in all the plus and minuses that they have to offer. If Hotmail didn't act like a psycho girlfriend, I would have like to still use their accounts. It's good to have more than one e-mail service not only to have back-up in case you lose a password or the service account gets screwy, but also to divide up your mail.

I use one only for job hunting, another as mentioned before strictly to navigator spam mail away from my main account, which in turn is only for family. and then there's the ones I use for forums, blog subscriptions and so forth. Is it a headache to collect all those different e-mails andpasswords and such?

Nah. I don't care. It serves my purposes. Keeps me busy.

But good point about Gmail ratting out a user's IP address. Don & I, if memory serves me well, talked about this over at the other forum (or other, other forum?) and I'm not only protecting myself but this forum as well from the "1984" apostles. We are going to lose our personal freedoms if we don't keep guard.

@OtagoPaul

A guy takes a leave of absence, and all you want to do is eat him.

This is why NZ folks have never once appeared as a popular Disney cartoon character.

Sorry mate....these things happen.

I'd be happy to invite you over for dinner by way of an apology, George. Can you suggest a wine that goes best with you, er, I mean, the wine you prefer...

An BTW, that crack about Disney is well below the belt. Why do you think we've voted an imbecile as Prime Minister? We got him on Letterman, how come there's been no movie offer? (How about Dopey Goes to Washington?)

Laughing Laughing Laughing

That Disney crack was being kind. Especially since the politicos here in California are the bastard children of Goofy. Same intellect too.

And may I add, Penguin goes great with Iced Raspberry tea, although I prefer diet myself. May I suggest a nice hollandaise sauce to go with me?

What the Hell am I saying?
