Do you enjoy full-time employment with benefits? (OK, let me rephrase that: Are you working full-time?)
Are you unemployed? Working part-time? As a temp?
Let the spew commence!

I'm retired, but voted as unemployed voluntarily. I do a fair amount of volunteer work, too, but it isn't in an organized establishment.
"Other (please explain below)" is often a handy option in polls.
Thanks for this one, though. I'll check on it for further results.

A bit hard to define. I'm not employed at my preferred job, but there is work out there for me.

I'm employed full-time with decent benefits. Come July, I'll have been at this gig for five years. It's not necessarily my "dream job," but I don't dread going there every day, either.

I was unemployed until November. I had work up until then, but not in my chosen profession. Besides being grateful that I found something I like, I'm very thankful that I don't have to grovel at retail or worse.
So if you're still toiling in unemployment, I hear you. Hang in there. It only took me five years. |

I was back on the orchard today. A lovely, sunny autumn (fall) day. No-one around but me and the trees. All in all it would have been perfect if my ipod hadn't packed up.

More than anything else, my job search reminds me of that old Life cereal commercial, with the three boys being prospective employers and me being the Life cereal.
Here's how it went:
Two eight (?) year-old boys and a toddler in a high chair are sitting around the breakfast table. The two eight-year-olds dare each other to try the cereal, in vain. "I'm not going to try it. You try it."
Neither one budges. Finally, an idea occurs to one of them. "Hey! Let's get Mikey (the toddler) to try it."
They shove the bowl in front of the toddler, and to their astonishment, he eats it. They look at each other and say "He likes it!" Having been proven safe, the two eight year-old join the toddler in wolfing down the now-appealing cereal.
So it is with employment. Employers won't hire anyone who's unemployed. "I'm not going to try it. You try it." They don't want to be the first. If company A and E won't try you, why should they? You might have cooties.
What I really need is to find Mikey.
This is why I laugh so hard when I see employment postings that rhapsodize about thinking outside of the box and fresh approaches and not doing things the same old way.
Yeah, sure.

Been unemployed for about two years now with a little side work from a friend.
Said friend was hit with a serious tax charge for paying someone all cash the year before and said he did not need me / could not afford me any more. This was about three weeks ago and I have been working seven days a week for him since. I may be going on the books full time soon.
Very strange...
