Some fellow here asked where the penguin was.

Well.....

I hope the typos aren't too many here so bear with me. Some of you may have remembered that I was scheduled to receive laser treatment for my eyes (due to diabetic problems; they were bleeding internally.) After a year & a half of cancellations (on their end), changing doctors & other little side steps, I finally got the help I needed. Back in the middle of last July, I had my eyes reexamined and the doctor--this time the guy who would actually do the work--said that I needed BOTH injections & laser work to my eyes. So for the next three weeks I was getting injections in both eyes (yes, they stick a needle in them) and Thank God Almighty the lasers.

The doctor said that it would feel "like a pinch".

A pinch? More like my eyes were tasered by the Los Angles Police Department.

I felt it more in my left eye since that one had the most damage. But becuase I stood my ground and took it all in, he said that he was able to complete the whole treatment in one sitting, or in his words "Hopefully we won't have to do this again in a long time".

Amen bro'.

Of course there was some side effects. Part of the main reason why I haven't been back here in awhile was the glare from bright sunlight & artificial light in general. Especially from my computer screen. It's not set too high, but anything that was bright & white glowed to the max from my POV. When I came home from the hospital, it was noontime. Had to get lunch. And that refrigerator light was like staring into a spotlight. Hurt like hell. Ever saw anyone go to the fridge with dark sunglasses?

I couldn't even walk down the street for a few days. I walked my Beagle a few days later after the treatment, and when I lifted my sunglasses a bit, all I was able to see was about three feet of sidewalk and nothing but solid light. White solid light.

Freaky.

Oh but it didn't stop there....a week before my first injections, my back molar on the left started to kill me out of the blue. To make a long story short, I had a tooth decay that was growing horizontally!! Even the dentist was caught surprised by that. It didn't break through the enamel; he had to drill a hole just to get to the damn decay. Had no problem until then. What timing.

My eyes are still a bit fuzzy but I can handle light much better than before now. I still have to get more shots in my eyes (within two weeks from this Monday) but so far I'm done with the lasers.

Oh, and one other thing: I was going to post here last Monday, but our power went out; someone had a Epileptic seizure while driving at high speed, and crashed into some powerlines. Shut down 10 blocks, including our street. That was at 7:00 PM. Power didn't come back on until 8:30 AM.

In perspective, I'm glad I wasn't that guy.

So......what did I miss?

Do you live in a country with nationalized health care? Or is it out of pocket?

Have known several people who have undergone laser optic surgery, and to a person they are very enthusiastic and heartily endorse it.

Hope you are one of them soon.

I didn't want details about the pain thank you very much.

"White solid light" wasn't that an album by Lou Reed?

Glad to know you've finally had the treatment that you were promised.

Thanks Reg!! It's been an adventure lately. Still is. Just today I found out that my regular doctor just left the medical center I go to so now I've got to start over again with a new doctor. As I said it's my 'regular' doctor not the one who did my eyes. but I hate to start from ground level zero again with a new guy. And just an hour ago the crown on my back molar broke off so it's back to the dentist tomorrow.

Peachy. Rolling Eyes

I do live in a country with both methods mentioned above.

I live in California. Laughing

I'm involved with something called "Healthy Way L.A." which provides everything I need....except dental care. That's out of pocket. But the dentist I have allows monthly pavements so I can give a little when I can. However, getting a paying job isn't too easy here so yeah, there's anxiety. God willin' I'll get something soon. I'm too ugly to be a hooker. Razz

My eye treatment was to fix the damage that the stupid diabetes did to my eyes, but apparently it's been fixed; it's just takes time to heal I guess. Everyone I known that had laser treatment in one form or another gave it high marks. They are not as strained as before. it's just a bit 'fuzzy' out there.

To quote Neil Innes, "I've suffered for my art, now it's your turn." Laughing

Not much of a Reed fan, but "Heroin" would have been the cut of choice when my left eye got the first blast!! I don't know which was more 'weirder'......seeing the yellow light with color static in the middle of my vision--or the sounds of pops & crackles in my head during the process.

I felt like a breakfast cereal.

They use a Novocaine Gel on my eyes so I can't feel the harsh pain when the needles go in the corner of my eyes--which is happening again two weeks from now. It didn't seems to do much during the lasers however. I felt that sucker big time. I'm sure to get the regular dental novocaine today. I'm developing a taste for it now. bleh.

Wish me luck today & tomorrow....

I don't know...I've seen a few California hookers in my day.

Good Luck, my friend!

As i was saying...... Laughing

Yeah, I'm still alive.....At least the last time I've looked.

I don't want to re-live last month's ordeal, but I didn't expect the set backs in my health, mostly dental problems now. Just briefly, I need to get a bone graft now for my upper back moral on the left. That's an ongoing thing. As far as the eyes, it's better news so far: just three more series of shots and then I will get an evaluation on the progress of my eyes. I hope to God It will be the last shots I need to get.

After My last post, I had endured my then-2nd sets of shots in my eyes. The doctor who did it the first time was a really pro; I hardly felt them.

But not this time.

I had a different doctor, who did things a little different. She put a extra drop of cleaning solution in my right eye after the injection which caused my eye to get swollen. I couldn't open or close it without big time honking pain. By the end of the day, not a single white area of my pupil was white...just a solid blood red color.

Took a couple of days to heal but it threw my sleeping pattern in chaos.

Ah, but I said I didn't want to relive all that, eh?

I'm not totally out of the medical routine yet, but I'm feeling better enough to jump back into the forum again.

Just bare with me lads.
